Connecting People, Biodiversity and Cities

OUR VISION

Amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life, where steel and concrete stifle nature, imagine the creation of nature networks that not only foster urban biodiversity but transform urban dwellers into active custodians of their environment. This is not an ambitious dream, but a tangible vision we can achieve – one small patch of nature at a time.

The UrbanBEE Project

Urban areas are rapidly expanding, reshaping landscapes and threatening biodiversity. Pollinators—essential for healthy ecosystems—are declining at an alarming rate. Yet, within cities, small-scale interventions can have a big impact.

THE UrbanBEE SOLUTION: CITIZEN SCIENCE

UrbanBEE is a citizen science movement that blends real world biodiversity action with cutting-edge research. By deploying thousands of bee hotels across Africa and Europe—and inviting you to help monitor them—we are:

  • Providing safe nesting habitats to boost urban pollinator populations

  • Encouraging urban residents to become active biodiversity stewards

  • Generating real world data to inform greener, more biodiverse cities

WHY BEE HOTELS?

Solitary bee hotels are a simple, scalable nature-based solution. These wooden structures offer nesting space for wild pollinators, while giving scientists insights into urban biodiversity trends. Best of all, they let everyday people take action—turning cities into thriving nature networks.

Join thousands of citizen scientists & help transform urban biodiversity—one bee hotel at a time!
